Shopping Small: Clothing brands that are perfect for Christmas

Ok ok, we all know we should shop small. But when you’re not easily sucked into a vortex of thumb-achingly induced scrolling action looking at so many amazing small businesses on Instagram the way that we at Sassy Digital are, then it’s a little hard to know where to start!

So, we’re spreading the Christmas cheer, and we’ll be sharing a whole host of incredible small businesses that you can support this Christmas by shopping straight from their website! From fabulous fashion independents, to home, wellness and beauty - we’ve asked our community to send their favourites in to us!

This week, I’m beginning with the Christmas essentials; cards, decorations, wrapping paper and more.

Let me explain a little more about how each of these posts will work. I’m going to start them off with some that have been suggested to me, and that I’ve of course researched and given the Sassy seal of approval to. Then, I’ve love you to go and comment names and links to more small businesses in the comments! There’s hundreds of small businesses out there - so let’s help them to get discovered.

But before I get onto that, when I say ‘shopping small and local’ this Christmas - I’m not talking about popping down to the local supermarket express. It’s been a pretty tough year for most independently owned high street shops, and so please if your budget allows for it - go and support your local butcher, wine shop, greengrocer, bakery, and any other business you think could benefit from some community love. I know I will be, and more than ever in a year where we have mostly been avoiding other people - please let’s come together to support our shops!

In the next instalment of our shop small series, I wanted to focus in on the different small clothing brands that you can look at, so you can try something a little different this year for the fashion conscious people in your life.

I know how easy it is to just nip down the high street and visit the larger clothing retailers to find presents, but I would love it if you guys considered these smaller independent brands for the fashionista in your lives.

If you think there are more brands that you’d want to see included then please do get in touch!

Stay Wild Swim

1.Stay Wild Swim

  1. This swimwear brand is a firm favourite of mine. Leading ladies Natalie Glaze & Zanna Van Dijk created this brand out of her fond love for scuba diving and spending time by the water. They envisioned a brand that was inclusive, ethical and sustainable; as well as remaining fashion conscious. They want to give back to the ocean and keep clothing in the loop.

Their fantastic styles are inclusive and for everyone and their designs are made to flatter every woman, no matter what shape or size. This is something I just love about them and I think they are an incredibly body positive and feminist brand!

Have a look at their beautiful swimwear and see for yourselves.

2. SLA the label

SLA founder Sarah Ashcroft believed that clothing basics shouldn’t be basic, and that’s what SLA is all about. This fantastic brand aspired to create beautiful basics that flattered every woman and allowed them to feel confident and sexy.

The incredible collections show that dressing in loungewear doesn’t have to be boring. The products are beautiful and very reasonably priced, making them the ideal addition to any lounge lovers wardrobe. I’m not ashamed to admit I personally own five of these tracksuits; one for every day of the ‘working-from-home’ week,

Have a little look at their jaw-dropping, Insta-worthy clothing.

Shop Little Lies

3. Little Lies

‘Tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies’. I know plenty of boho babes who would absolutely love some new hippie chic in their wardrobe. This brand is for all of the rock ‘n’ roll babes. Founder Jade came up with the concept one night over cocktails, and the brand was born. Little Lies has grown from strength to strength over the years after its humbling beginnings as a small boutique in the middle of Dundee, Scotland.

From band tees, to boho dresses, to festival-ready accessories; Little Lies has something for everyone. Their fantastic products are also shipped worldwide, how incredible is that!?

4. Olly Olly and Co

Olly Olly and Co are a small, independent activewear brand with an ethical conscious. The brand idea was born when the founders went on a round the world trip and became acutely aware of their negative plastic consumption. They wanted to change the ways in which they shopped. So with this in mind, they created their brand using discarded ocean waste, truly keeping clothing within the loop.

The brand is very much a mix of Australian surfer chic and California dreamin’. The ladies at Olly Olly and Co have created a must-have activewear brand that exudes effortless style and sustainability.

I personally own a pair of their leggings and I can honestly say they’re super comfortable and they don’t fall down (which is obviously an essential in all gym leggings!)

5. By Megan Crosby

I absolutely adore the ethos behind By Megan Crosby, Megan uses remnant, sustainable, deadstock fabrics to hand make her clothing. She has a small team of freelance seamstresses that help her, but each item is individually hand-crafted, so you can be assured that no two pieces are exactly the same.

The clothing is completely made to order and can be adjusted to your preferences, if you want a lower neckline on your garment, Megan can sort this out for you. She ensures that no fabric goes to waste. Her colourful, unique designs are the perfect gift.

Here is just some Christmas clothing gift inspiration for you. If you feel there are more amazing and sustainable clothing brands that you want me to shout about, please DM me on Insta, or send us an email! info@sassydigital.co.uk
